Kulumadau on Woodlark Island

When we visited Kulumadau school was on term break.  Even so, a welcoming committee of children who live on the grounds greeted us with much excitement.  Their parents are the teaching staff.

Two hundred or more children attend this primary school with 60 boarders from surrounding islands.  The standard of education on Woodlark island has a reputation of being a high standard.  Mainland Papua New Guinea have much respect for Muyuw students.  To attend high school, the children must travel to Alotau on the mainland.

Two of the smallest boys followed us around excitedly calling out "dimdims" (the word for white skin people) and giggling.
